McShain-Horstmann Family Life Center
A gateway to serenity
A beautiful, bright foyer greets you upon
arriving to the McShain-Horstmann Family Life Center at Malvern Retreat
House. From the first moment you enter the building, you are
greeted with a gas-logged fireplace, vaulted ceilings, elegant
furniture and an open courtyard. The Family Life Center is a
Catholic retreat center for men, women, families, married couples,
religious and clergy. With 50 rooms, this one floor facility
includes a magnificent chapel, two break-out rooms, a private dining
room, snack rooms and a reading room. Four rooms are set aside for
individuals in wheelchairs with the shower and sink being lowered for
ease of accessibility. A meditation garden with a small pond, a cedar
gazebo, cedar benches and a large cedar tree cross may be used for
private prayer. The Stations of the Cross path is situated to
the side of the building wrapping around wooded pathways, large trees
and vines. The Stations are dedicated to individual families,
all represented by a name plate on the Station. This facility is
ideally suited for men, women, married couples and families of small or
medium-sized retreats. It is also an ideal facility for
Catholic high school and young adult retreats. Malvern
Retreat House also welcomes individuals from other Christian faiths to
utilize our beautiful facilities and grounds.
