IRA Charitable Rollover
Information & Special Provisions for 2012
Dear Retreatant,
I have good news to share. Through the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, Congress
has reauthorized the IRA Charitable Rollover through December 31, 2013. You can now use your IRA to support Malvern in 2012 and 2013 - and save on taxes too!
IRA Charitable Rollover
If
you are age 70 ½ or older you can make direct qualified charitable
distributions (up to $100,000 per year) from your Individual Retirement
Account (IRA) to Malvern and avoid federal income tax on the transfer.
This is an especially tax-efficient way to support Malvern and your
other charitable interests if:
- You do not itemize deductions
- You do not need the additional income from your required minimum distribution
- Your
charitable gifts already equal 50% of your adjusted gross income, so
you do not benefit from an income tax charitable deduction for
additional gifts, or
- You are subject to income tax deduction and exemption phase outs
Special Provisions for 2012
The
reauthorization of the IRA Charitable Rollover includes two special
provisions, which may allow you to reduce your tax liability in 2012 if:
- You took a
distribution from your IRA in December 2012 and made a gift to Malvern
after you received your distribution, but before February 1, 2013, you
can elect to treat all or part of your contribution (up to the $100,000)
as a qualified charitable distribution for 2012, and not as taxable
income.
- You make a qualified charitable distribution to Malvern in January 2013 you can elect to count the gift retroactively for 2012.
To
initiate a qualified charitable distribution to Malvern contact your
IRA plan administrator. If you have any questions about the
qualifications and benefits of making a gift to Malvern through your
IRA, please email me at mnorton@malvernretreat.com or call me at 484-321-2539.
God Bless,
Michael Norton

The Annual Appeal and Membership Drive
Each year, Malvern Retreat House asks its members to make a gift to the
Annual Appeal. The Annual Appeal is the cornerstone of the Malvern
Development Program. The revenues help support operational expenses
including needed capital improvements, determined each year by the
level of giving. The goal in 2012 is to raise $350,000. We ask each
member to prayerfully consider making a gift to the Annual Appeal. Our Annual Membership Drive is another important way for us to raise much needed funds for the retreat house. For
details, call Michael Norton at 484-321-2539
or email MNorton@MalvernRetreat.com
You can use your credit
card now and donate to the Annual Appeal and Membership Drive using this link...

donation form as a PDF Simply print, fill out and mail.
In Lieu of Flowers
Many members of our Malvern Family have asked that, in honor of their
passing, friends and family make contributions to the Malvern Retreat
House instead of sending flowers. To make a donation In
Lieu of Flowers please use this link...

We are also providing
logos for newspaper and Funeral Director's use. Click each logo to

The Endowment Fund
The purpose of the Endowment Fund is to provide revenue for the
long-term financial health of the Malvern Retreat House. While we have
always managed to be financially stable, we have not been able to build
our endowment to a satisfactory level for an institution of our size.
Besides providing financial stability for a "rainy day," endowment
income can also create an additional stream of revenue to help offset
the increasing costs of retreats. Retreatants want to pay their way and
continuing increases may deter a retreatant from participating in the
retreat experience here at Malvern Retreat House. For details, call Michael Norton at 484-321-2539
or email MNorton@MalvernRetreat.com
Gifts of Stock
Malvern Retreat House has set-up a brokerage account to accept gifts of
stock. Members with securities may carefully consider the tax advantage
of gifting stock to Malvern Retreat House. One can deduct the fully
appreciated amount of the gift and avoid paying for capital gains by
giving shares to Malvern Retreat House or any charitable organization.
Malvern Retreat House receives the full value of the appreciated
securities.

Note: Do
not put stock in the League's name.
Major Gifts
"Give freely the gift that has been given
to you." - Matthew 10:8
A key component of every development program is major gifts. We know
that some Men or Women of Malvern have been more financially blessed
than others. We also know that many people would be open to making a
major gift to Malvern if they are personally asked to do so. At Malvern
we are confident we can show a prospective major gift donor how his or
her gift to Malvern can make a difference in changing peoples lives for
the better. If you know someone who is capable of making a major gift to Malvern,
call Michael Norton at 484-321-2539 or email MNorton@MalvernRetreat.com
Matching Gifts
The Malvern Retreat House is a non-profit charity and, as such,
is eligible to receive matching gift funds. If your company has a
matching gift program, would you please consider making a matching
gift?
It’s a simple process. Simply complete and send in to the Development
Office at Malvern a copy of the matching gift form from your company
alongwith your check. The Development office will acknowledge receipt
of your gift by completing your matching gift form. This is a unique
way for you to double your gift to Malvern Retreat House, helping us
to enhance our mission for the future.

are personally acknowledged. For details, call Edie Petillo at 484-321-2544

Other Planned Gifts
There are many ways to contribute to Malvern Retreat House and
support its mission for the future. In addition to cash, checks,
securities, bequests, gifts of personal property, or real estate,
insurance policies can be changed to make Malvern a beneficiary.
Charitable Remainder Trusts, Lead Trusts and annuities are among the
many financial instruments that can be used in a way that is advantageous
for the donor as well as the charity. We recommend you see your
financial consultant or planner to explore the opportunities that
making
a planned gift might offer you.

Remembering Malvern in your Will
A bequest to the League is a noble and lasting gift. The Good Shepherd Club
has
been established to memorialize members and spouses who have included
the Malvern Retreat House in their Will or estate plan. They have
chosen
to say “thank you” for a lifetime of spiritual gifts received at the
feet of Christ in the hills of Malvern Retreat House. Good Shepherd
Club
names are engraved on a plaque in Lower McShain Hall. Special Malvern
Good Shepherd membership pins are sent to all who include Malvern in
their Will. Over 175 members have chosen to do so and we are grateful.
