In Saint John’s Gospel narrative we hear how Mary Magdalene did not at first recognize the Lord because her focus was on two things: the empty tomb and on her own grief.  How easy it is to miss the Lord when our focus is distracted.

It took only one Word from the Master, when He called her by name, for Mary to recognize Him.  I believe that Mary’s message to the disciples that, “I have seen the Lord,” is the very essence of Christianity.  It is not enough that we as Christians know about the Lord, but that we know Him personally, to have an “intimate” relationship with Him.  He is not only our Lord; He is also our friend and our brother.

In the Resurrection we encounter the living Christ who loves us personally and shares His glory with us.  In his letter to the Ephesians (1:18) Saint Paul tells us that the Lord gives us “eyes of faith” to see the truth of His Resurrection and victory over sin and death.

The Resurrection of Jesus is the very foundation of our hope; the hope that we will see God face to face and share in His everlasting glory and joy.

Friends, we must always recognize the Lord’s presence within us, within His Word, within the Holy Eucharist, and within His Church which is the Body of Christ, the Lord.

Question of the Day: The Lord Jesus knows us by name.  How will you recognize Him in your life?

Prayer:  Hear us, Almighty God, and, as You have bestowed on Your family the perfect grace of Baptism, so prepare their hearts for the reward of eternal Happiness.  Through Christ our Lord, Amen. (Prayer after Communion for April 14, 2020)

Please continue to pray for the victims of the Coronavirus and for all who are affected by this unprecedented pandemic.
