Psalm 19
Luke 17:26-37
There are three things we should learn from today’s Gospel message about eternal life and the end of the world:
- First is that the world will definitely come to an end.
- Second is that one day Christ will come again to call us home to be with the Father and all the saints in heaven.
- Third is that the path to Heave is the way of love.
Today Jesus reminds us, “Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.”
Friends, it may be helpful if we gave ourselves an occasional “self evaluation” to determine if we lived our lives as Christ did, that is as the one who came “to serve and not be served.” In her book “Learning of Life” Donna Eick suggests we ponder:
- Have I learned that being kind is more important than being right
- Have I learned that every child is a gift from God
- Have I learned that I can always pray for someone when I don’t have the strength to help him/her in some other way
- Have I learned that sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand
- Have I learned that we should be glad God doesn’t give us everything we ask for
- Have I learned that love, not time, heals all wounds
- Have I learned that when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere
- Have I learned that a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks
- Have I learned I can’t choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it
Just some thoughts to think about. Just some thoughts to pray about.
Question of the Day: Do you periodically “examine your conscience” as to how you view the world you live in?
Prayer: Loving Father, let all human beings be Your dear children and my brothers and sisters.
