Mark J. Poletunow, Malvern President (  (Readings for the day)

1 Peter 4:7-9

The end of all things is at hand.
Therefore be serious and sober-minded
so that you will be able to pray.

Above all, let your love for one another be intense,
because love covers a multitude of sins.

Be hospitable to one another without complaining.

Mark 10:49-52

“Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer,
believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours
When you stand to pray,
forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance,

so that your heavenly Father may in turn
forgive you your transgressions.”

Reflect: Prayer and love: these go together. The scriptures today call us to a serious faith that is manifested in prayer and love. To pray genuinely, our minds need to be clear and our hearts need to be filled with love, forgiveness and hospitality. Carrying a grievance against someone can be a stumbling block to prayer. On the other hand, intense Christian love and forgiveness clears the way for powerful prayer.

Pray: Loving God, I turn to you for a heart and mind disposed to love, forgiveness and hospitality. Help me to remove any obstacle that blocks me from genuine faith-filled prayer. Provide for me the grace to turn to you unencumbered. Amen.
