A Reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (3:13-19)

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted
and they came to him.

He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles,
that they might be with him
and he might send them forth to preach
and to have authority to drive out demons:
He appointed the Twelve:
Simon, whom he named Peter;
James, son of Zebedee,
and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges,
that is, sons of thunder;
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus;
Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean,
and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

Reflect: Team Jesus is set – the Twelve will be with Jesus, to proclaim the Kingdom of God, to expel demons and heal the sick.  Jesus vetted the apostles by the state of their hearts – not looking for perfection, but for a desire to announce the Way, the Truth and the Life. Their free will was intact – Simon Peter denied him three times and Judas Iscariot betrayed him – but he still called them. Most of us are not called to be Popes or bishops; however, Jesus continues to form his team today. In fact, that is why we were created – to know, love and serve him – each of us within our distinct niche in the world. Jesus needs us. We have a mission to encounter him and to make him known right where we are. Are you ready Team Jesus?

Do I believe that Jesus really wants to use me in a special and unique way to know, love and serve him in this world? Do I want to be part of his team? What might be getting in the way of me hearing Jesus’ invitation?

Pray: Loving God, give me a heart that desires nothing more than to know you, love you and serve you in this world, and that desires to be with you forever in the Kingdom to come.  I ask this in the powerful and perfect name of Jesus. Amen
