Isaiah 38:1-6

When Hezekiah was mortally ill,
the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, came and said to him:
Thus says the LORD: Put your house in order,
for you are about to die; you shall not recover.”
Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD
:

“O LORD, remember how faithfully and wholeheartedly
I conducted myself in your presence,
doing what was pleasing to you!”
And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah: “Go, tell Hezekiah:
Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David:
I have heard your prayer and seen your tears.
I will heal you
: in three days you shall go up to the LORD’s temple;
I will add fifteen years to your life.
I will rescue you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria;
I will be a shield to this city.”

Reflect: When King Hezekiah hears the words, “Put your house in order”, he knows that his condition is grave. In faith, however, he prays to God from the depth of his heart. God heard his prayer, healed him and provided fifteen more years to Hezekiah’s life. All of us need healing of one sort or another. Do we pray earnestly for God’s healing?  God hears genuine prayer, and he always answers us. The answer may not be in the form that we expect, but we can be sure that all of our prayer is heard and responded to by God. Do I trust God enough to abandon all of my needs and brokenness to him?  What stops me from praying for myself and others?

Pray: Loving God, you know my needs before I speak them. Please hear my prayer.  Heal my wounds, my brokenness, my bitterness.  Heal my mind, body and spirit.  I pray all of this in the powerful, perfect name of Jesus. Amen.

WE BELIEVE, AND THEREFORE SPEAK (2 Corinthians 4:13)
