May 30, 2016  – Monday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time

Memorial Day (USA)

Mark J. Poletunow, Malvern President (  (Readings for the day)

 2 Peter 1:1, 5-7

May grace and peace be yours in abundance
through knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

For this very reason,
make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue,
virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self-control,
self-control with endurance, endurance with devotion,
devotion with mutual affection, mutual affection with love.

Reflect: Peter’s exhortation is based out of love and concern for the believers.  He is well aware that we are facing evil, corruption and temptations in our everyday life; and he is deeply concerned.  So he wants us to know that basic faith isn’t enough.  If we are really going to live as committed followers of Christ, our faith needs to be filled with virtue; knowledge of who Jesus is: self-control in the face of temptation; endurance when we are inundated with tough challenges and little noticeable return; devotion of the Truth; mutual affection for other believers; and love that is willing to not only forgive the other, but to die for the other.

Pray: Loving God, to genuinely walk the Way with you isn’t easy. There are tons of temptations and distortions of the Truth. But you call me to something more; to follow you and put my faith into action. Please give me the grace, the strength, the endurance to love you with all of my being and to love others as my brothers and sisters. Amen.
