A Reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (3:22-30)

The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said of Jesus,
“He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and
“By the prince of demons he drives out demons.”

Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables,
“How can Satan drive out Satan?
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
And if a house is divided against itself,
that house will not be able to stand.
And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided,
he cannot stand;
that is the end of him.

But no one can enter a strong man’s house to plunder his property
unless he first ties up the strong man.
Then he can plunder his house.
Amen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies
that people utter will be forgiven them.
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit
will never have forgiveness,

but is guilty of an everlasting sin.”
For they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Reflect: The devil is a liar. He can into the hearts of people and twist their perceptions of the Truth. Because of the good works that Jesus did he was accused of having an “unclean spirit” and being “possessed by Beelzebul”. To deny that Jesus is Lord and Savior of the world is to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. To equate Jesus with evil is just over the top. Today, we set aside a special Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. Unfortunately in the United States, the law claims that abortion is a legal right – what is correct has been twisted. The most recent statistics show that the demand for abortion dropped to 1,000,000 abortions per year in this country. Incredible to think that in a civilized society we can tolerate any abortions let alone 1,000,000! The Church asks us to pray in earnest today for a respect for life and for the legal protection of unborn children. May God’s truth reign and be embraced by even those who are inclined to deny him.

Do I embrace and proclaim the Truth both when convenient and inconvenient? Is my heart united with the heart of Christ?

Pray: God our Creator, we give thanks to you, who alone have the power to impart the breath of life as you form each of us in our mother’s womb; grant, we pray, that we, whom you have made stewards of creation, may remain faithful to this sacred trust and constant in safeguarding the dignity of every human life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For the sake of your name, O Lord, give me life!
