June 20, 2016  – Monday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Mark J. Poletunow, Malvern President (  (Readings for the day)

Matthew 7:1-2

Jesus said to his disciples:

Stop judging, that you may not be judged.  For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?”

Reflect: Maybe part of human nature is to judge our brothers and sisters. Maybe we look at the splinter in someone else’s eye to distract us from recognizing the beam of sin in our own eye. Human nature or not, Jesus is leveling an indictment about the sin of being judgmental. He wants us to get our own house in order so that instead of judging we can be instruments that help others to grow in grace and holiness.

Pray: Loving God, help me to put aside my tendencies to judge others. Help me to recognize where I need your grace and forgiveness, so that instead of putting others down I can be a support that helps them grow closer to you. May your love and mercy toward others take hold of my heart. Amen.
