A Reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark (7:25-28)

Jesus is always able to save those who approach God through him,
since he lives forever to make intercession for them.

It was fitting that we should have such a high priest:
holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners,
higher than the heavens.

He has no need, as did the high priests,
to offer sacrifice day after day,
first for his own sins and then for those of the people;
he did that once for all when he offered himself.
For the law appoints men subject to weakness to be high priests,
but the word of the oath, which was taken after the law,
appoints a son, who has been made perfect forever.

Reflect: Look no further. The solution to all of our problems is here. It is Jesus. He is the perfect high priest. His incarnation; his suffering, death and resurrection open the door for salvation. He is always able to save us and make intercession for us – that is why he came into our world. Sometimes we spend lots of energy, time and money searching for the golden nugget that is going to change our lives for the better. We already have the solution – it is Jesus. He is our hope. He is our peace. He is the fullness of life!

Do I find myself searching in all the wrong places for joy and happiness?  Do I trust that Jesus won’t let me down, and, in fact, will intercede and intervene in my life in ways that I can’t even begin to imagine – if I only ask?

Pray: Loving God, please give me a heart that seeks you above and before all other things. May I grow in trust of your promises and give you praise, glory and honor with my life.  I ask this in the powerful and perfect name of Jesus. Amen

Holy God; Holy and Mighty One; Holy and Immortal One: Have mercy on us and on the whole world!
