Matthew 6:14-15

Jesus said to his disciples:

“If you forgive others their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”

Reflect: As Jesus concludes this teaching on prayer, he emphasizes the centrality of forgiveness as a manifestation of the Kingdom of God.  Our loving Father is always willing to hear our prayer, yet a forgiving heart, a willingness to let God’s forgiveness enter our hearts is a requisite as we turn to him. If we are truly daughters and sons of the Father, then we must have a heart that imitates his; that reflects his readiness to extend mercy and forgiveness.

Pray: Loving God, may your Kingdom come to my life and our world. Take away any obstacle that creates resistance to your grace and my ability to claim you as my inheritance. Help me to forgive; or, at the very least, to let you forgive when I can’t. May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
