First Letter of St. Peter 1:15-16

Like obedient children,
do not act in compliance with the desires of your former ignorance
but, as he who called you is holy,
be holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct,
for it is written, Be holy because I am holy.

Reflect: We might feel inclined that holiness is unreachable in our lives because of our past or present sins.  If we believe that holiness is beyond us, then we are saying that Jesus is unreachable.  The fact is that Jesus is doing everything possible to make each one of us holy – through the sacraments, his word and the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Maybe we don’t sense it now, but he doesn’t want to lose any of us.  He is calling us to inherit heaven.  How can I better cooperate with all that God is offering me?

Pray: Loving God, I sometimes feel as if there isn’t any hope for me. Please give me a heart and mind that welcomes you; that lets you take hold of me to transform me into the holy creature that you intended me to be. With you I know it is possible. Amen.

WE BELIEVE, AND THEREFORE SPEAK (2 Corinthians 4:13)
