Mark J. Poletunow, Malvern President (  (Readings for the day)

Matthew 7:12-14

Jesus said to his disciples:

Do to others whatever you would have them do to you.
This is the Law and the Prophets.

Enter through the narrow gate;
for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction,
and those who enter through it are many.
How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life.
And those who find it are few.”

Reflect: The “Golden Rule”: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Even Pope Francis quoted this oft recited message when he visited the USA last September (2015). The Gospel passage reminds us that this rule may be golden because it’s easier said than done.  If we really want to live that way, we need to bear in mind that this road to life, the life of Christ, is narrow and constricted; however, in contrast, the wide gate and broad highway – typically known as the common culture – sows insecurity and emptiness. The Golden Rule is significant in that it needs to be inspired by grace and intentionally chosen to be lived. It means that we choose to live the life of Jesus in the world; letting his light shine in the darkness, permitting his hope to transform despair.

Pray: Loving God, you are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Take hold of my life and help me to choose your way, the narrow way, in all circumstances of my life. Amen.
