The Holy Gospel According to Luke (12:39-40;48)

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Be sure of this:
if the master of the house had known the hour
when the thief was coming,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much,
and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”

Reflect: The North American Martyrs sacrificed all they had for the sake of the Gospel. Their commitment embraced the Native American peoples with a witness to God’s love and mercy.  They were given many gifts by God. They responded with complete trust, and returned all they had for the sake of God’s Kingdom. God’s abundant gifts and graces aren’t limited to those called to be martyrs.  Each of us is blessed in a unique and generous way by God.  And he asks that we pour out ourselves for the sake of his Kingdom in whatever circumstance we find ourselves in life.

Is my heart focused on the Kingdom of God by using my many gifts and blessings to witness to God’s presence in my life? Do I accept that God has a unique mission for me to make him known through my life and the way I live?

Pray: Loving God, give me a generous and loving heart that desires to use my gifts for your honor and glory and for the building up of your Kingdom here on earth.  I ask this in the powerful, perfect name of Jesus. Amen.

Saints John de Brebeuf, Isaac Jogues and Companions: Pray for us!
