Malvern Minute – Wednesday
Malvern Minute

June 22, 2016 – Wednesday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Mark J. Poletunow, Malvern President (  (Readings for the day)

Matthew 7:12-14

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing,
but underneath are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will know them.
Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Just so, every good tree bears good fruit,
and a rotten tree bears bad fruit.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit,
nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down
and thrown into the fire.
So by their fruits you will know them.”

Reflect: “By their fruits you will know them” begs the question as to where we turn to as the source of what we do.  Do we rely on ourselves – our own strength, power and abilities? Or do we recognize and count on the source of all that we have, all that we are comes from someone much greater than us – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?  In the first reading from the Second Book of Kings we see that the king of Judah demands his subjects to become reacquainted with the book of the covenant so that they would make a commitment “before the Lord that they would follow him and observe his ordinances, statutes and decrees with their whole hearts and souls.” It was that important for them to get their lives back on track.  How important is it for us to give honor and glory to God by the good fruits produced by our lives?

Pray: Loving God, I want to do your will and honor you with all of my thoughts, desires and actions. I want the world to know you by the way I live.  Please take away from me anything that is not from you; and give me the desire to make you known through all of my actions. May my life bear only good fruit. Amen.
