Book of the Prophet Jeremiah

Psalm 7

John 7:40-53

In today’s Gospel Jesus speaks and the people, including His enemies, listen to Him.  They exclaim, “This is truly the Prophet.” And, This is the Christ.”  Even the temple guards who are tasked by the Pharisees to bring Jesus to them listen to Him as well.  As a result, they do not arrest Him because they are deeply moved by what He says.  They were astonished and amazed when they heard Him preaching and saw Him performing miracles.  They are touched and changed by His Words and report to the authorities what they had experienced.

“Can anything good come from Nazareth?”  (John 1:46)  The Chief Priests and Pharisees do not accept Jesus as the Messiah primarily because, according to them, He is of Galilean origin and not from Bethlehem and not of David’s line.  They use their influence to persuade the crowd against Jesus.

But what of us?  When we listen to Jesus’ Holy Words we cannot remain unchanged or untouched.  Therefore, let us take this opportunity in celebrating this season of Lent to really listen to our Lord’s Words in the liturgy, in the reading Sacred Scripture, our personal prayer life, loving it and putting it into practice.  In doing so we bring healing and health to our hearts, minds and body’s and the breath of new life into our souls.  When we put Jesus’ Words into action we will have a better understanding of what it means to be living the Holy Word of God.

Question of the Day:  Will you plant the “seed” of Jesus’ Holy Words into your hearts, minds and souls and put them into practice?

Prayer:  “Blessed are they who have kept the word with a generous heart and yield a harvest through perseverance.  (Verse before the Gospel, March 28, 2020)
