Memorial Feast:  Saint Norbert (c.1075-+1134) – Patron Saint invoked during childbirth for safe delivery

Second Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy 4:1-8

Mark 12:38-44

Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.”

Every now and then I am reminded, or perhaps I need to be reminded, that “it’s not about me.”  I think of that when I read in today’s Gospel with Jesus saying, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplace.”   The scribes, their position, and the honor due to them, was what it was all about, not the service that they rendered to others.  It’s apparently a big deal to wear a long robe and get good seats of honor.  It was what “celebrities” in Jesus’ time enjoyed, and I suspect people looked at the scribes as people now look at today’s celebrities and say, “Wow, how cool!”

Friends, living the right kind of life is not about long robes, seats of honor or having a high position.  We must remember that, “It’s not about me or us.”  It’s about what we do, how we serve each other and how we worship God.

The widow puts in her two little coins.  She gives her all.  She realized that it’s not about her.  It’s about what we do, and the focus of what we give, regardless if it is from our time our talent or our treasure.  Living a God-centered life is not about giving a certain amount in the collection basket, it’s about serving wthl all you have, all you can do, all you are.

Question of the Day:  In the midst of the Coronavirus how will you continue to give of your time, talent and treasure for those who have less?

Prayer:  Lord God, please grant me your mercy.  Let me also show mercy to others, even when it is difficult for me to do so.  Amen.

Please continue to pray for the victims of the Coronavirus and for all who are affected by this unprecedented pandemic.
