Book of Revelation 22:1-7

Psalm 95

Luke 21:34-36

Have you ever thought about what Paradise would be like?  We might associate Paradise with a place of incredible beauty and perfection; we think of Heaven.  We think of, “The land of milk and honey, streets of gold, and having our very own Mansion.”

Today the Book of Revelation reveals the vision of John, which speaks about the heavenly state which was before, and is described as a paradise which was lost by the sin of Adam.  Fortunately this reading also speaks of another Paradise restored by Jesus Christ.  In the first paradise, there were only two persons to behold the beauty and taste the pleasures of it, but the new paradise is free to all that believe.  The new paradise will be free from everything that is evil.  The evil one cannot disturb the saints from eternal service to God.

In Psalm 95, David stirs up himself and others to praise God, a duty which should be performed joyfully.  The scripture tells us that it is the will of God that when we give glory to him as being perfect, we should rejoice in Him as our Father and King, as a God who is in covenant with all of us.

Our Gospel narrative tells us that Jesus took the opportunity to impress upon his disciples the importance of praising God through our gifts, but with the right spirit.  He speaks of the scribes who boasted of the size of their gifts, but the gift of the poor widow, who gave all that she had, caught the eye of Jesus as being more meaningful in Kingdom building.  He cautioned His disciples not to get caught up in all of the anxieties of daily life, and to be prepared for the great day when He returns.

Question of the Day:  How are you preparing for the day Jesus returns?

Prayer:  Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory!
