Colossians 1:21-23

Psalm 54:3-4, 6-8

Luke 6:1-5

The First Reading from St. Paul contains a common theme in sacred scripture.  God, by His suffering and dying on the cross has saved us and has given us the guidelines to follow, in order to live a more loving and fulfilling life here on earth.  These guidelines lead us to eternal life if we persevere in faith.

In Luke’s Gospel Jesus clearly tells the Pharisees that God is the one who exercises authority over all laws and regulations.  This may be our challenge in today’s Gospel, that is, trying to discern how to follow God’s hopes and  desires for us and following laws which at times my be confusing or even oppressive.  This brings to mind the phrase, “What Would Jesus Do?”  “WWJD” might be a phrase we need to ask ourselves more of then as we make decisions or choices in life.  Hopefully, by asking ourselves this important question we will be lead into prayer and reflection as to the decisions and choices we make and the impact these decisions and choices potentially have on ourselves and on others.

I believe God wants us to be the best person we can be but if our integrity and our relationship with God or our fellow human beings are being compromised we may have to call into question laws and regulations.  Jesus, and later His disciples, questioned laws and regulations which did not lead us to living the Good News of the Gospel message as taught through the life of Jesus.

Question of the Day:  Will you be able to ask the question, “What Would Jesus Do” when making a decision or choice that would impact your life or the life of someone else?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, be always at my side and lead me through this life on earth and to your eternal kingdom in heaven.
