Saturday of the Twenty-Sixth Day in Ordinary Time

October 5, 2019

Deacon Anthony J. Cincotta

Assistant Director for Retreat Ministry

Baruch 4:5-12, 27-29

Psalm 69

Luke 10:17-24

Our Lord Jesus had a wonderful habit of magnifying what other people held as unimportant or marginal.  An example of this was His attitude toward children.  Often considered insignificant to the people of His time, children were more than once the focal point of His teaching.  We hear in today’s Gospel, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.” The question is what did Jesus mean by being “childlike?”

To answer that question we must ask another.  What would it be like to be a disciple?  You would be “childlike” and open to God in the same way that Jesus was open to His Father.   You will then have everything!

Our journey in faith parallels the disciple’s following Jesus.  There is a direct line from God – to Jesus – to the disciples – to us.  Like the disciples we are invited to follow and to trust in Jesus, the full revelation of God our Father.

Friends, God wants us to serve Him with Joy and Gladness.  No matter how difficult life becomes, rest assured that God has already provided the best for us.

Question of the Day:  Does your faith journey lead you to discipleship?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus be with me as I attempt to walk the walk with you.  Let me journey in faith, hope and love knowing that you are constantly present to me and inviting me into discipleship with you.
