First John 2:18-21

Psalm 96:1-2, 11-12, 13

John 1:1-18

I would like to share with you a wonderful story about the great German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897.)   It tells how he used to sit down with today’s passage from the Gospel every morning when he was composing one of his compositions.  He would read it over and over until he found that place in his creative heart that was full and open and ready to express on paper.  Only when he was so at peace within himself and so connected with God, only then did he take up his paper and writing instrument and begin composing.

Today is the last day of 2020.  It has been a year that has seen an ongoing pandemic, social injustice, mass violence in our cities, political bickering and much more.  However, on this final day of the year, it seems to me that we are in need of the kind of grace-filled creativity shown in Maestro Brahms.

Brahms had the kind of creativity that stems from a deep and faith-filled connection with the Word.  This type of creativity is rooted in knowledge of the Word that leads to significant action.  It is the kind of creativity that not only remembers the past, but also seeks to see the future with God’s eyes.

What I would suggest is for you to sit and read John’s Gospel (1:1-18) several times during the day and determine the vision that God offers you.       You may not wish to read John’s text over and over as Brahms did however, it did work for him.

Question of the Day:  What will you use to inspire others that Jesus is the light of the world?

Prayer:  “Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!”  Psalm 96.
