Psalm 138

Matthew 7:7-12

In today’s Gospel Jesus teaches His disciples to pray with confidence and humility because, the heavenly Father in His goodness, always answers prayers.  To pray with confidence and humility is what Jesus recommends.  Confident, because we know that God hears us and wants only the best for us.  It is humble because we are convinced that everything depends on His grace and action.

Our loving Father never refuses or mocks our prayers.  He graciously gives beyond our expectations.  Our heavenly Father listens and answers all our prayers although possibly not in the way we see fit.  He answers our prayers in His way, with wisdom and love, on His terms, on His timeline and knowing what is really best for us.  We are challenged to ask, to seek and to knock unceasingly motivated by our faith in the Father’s goodness and attentiveness to our true and lasting needs.

The Lord Jesus encourages us to be persistent and persevering in prayer every day.  Yet there are specified particular hours for formal prayer such as Holy Mass, The Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours,) The Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and so forth.  However, we are called to pray at all times throughout our day-to-day lives.  Why?  Because prayer makes us feel closer to God who loves us more than we will ever know.

Question of the Day:  Will you increase your prayer life to include your family members and friends?

Prayer:  “Be merciful, O Lord, to those who approach you in supplication, and, accepting the oblations and prayers of your people, turn the hearts of us all towards you.  Through Christ our Lord.”  (Prayer over the Offerings for March 5, 2020.)
