April 8, 2021

Deacon Anthony J. Cincotta

Saint Mary Magdalen Parish, Media, PA

Acts of the Apostle 3:11-26

Psalm 82: 5-9

Luke 24:35-48

Our Lord Jesus’ greeting to the disciples in His resurrection appearances is a simple one, “Peace be with you!”  “Shalom be with you!”  There is no greater gift God gives than Peace or Shalom.  The words literally relates to a wholeness and well-being that flows from communion with God.  This gift unites the receiver through God with the entire human community and with the entire universe.  It does not me peace to one but peace to all.

It is important to remember that the Paschal Mystery does not conclude with Jesus’ death on Calvary.  The culmination of the Paschal Mystery is the resurrection of Jesus and the gift of Shalom given by the Resurrected Jesus.  Christ’s death and resurrection not only pays the price for sins but also elevates  us to sons and daughters of God.  We become beloved children of God through this gift of Shalom, the gift of Jesus’ presence through His Spirit.

How desperately our troubled world needs Shalom!  This Easter Season let us be especially attentive to the Resurrected Jesus’ greeting to us and to our troubled world.  My brothers and sisters, “Peace be with you!”  “Shalom be with you!”

Question of the Day“How will you pass the gift of “Shalom” to others?

Prayer:  “This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.”
