Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel.  Alleluia!

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew (9:18-26)

While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward,
knelt down before him, and said,
“My daughter has just died.
But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live.”

Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples.
A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him
and touched the tassel on his cloak.
She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.”

Jesus turned around and saw her, and said,
“Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.”
And from that hour the woman was cured.

When Jesus arrived at the official’s house
and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion,
he said, “Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping.”
And they ridiculed him.
When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand,
and the little girl arose.

And news of this spread throughout all that land.
Reflect: My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live. This is an outstanding expression of faith from someone who wasn’t even counted among the disciples. He was a father who loved his daughter and trusted that Jesus would take care of her. Jesus brought the little girl back to life. Her father had great faith in Jesus.  The woman suffering for many years with draining and debilitating hemorrhages approached Jesus with great faith, too. She was cured, as well. We aren’t just to be bystanders to this powerful gospel message.  Jesus invites us to approach him with great faith – believing that he hears us, attends to us and knows what we really need.  Our supplications to Jesus are never left unheeded. He asks us to surrender ourselves to him; trusting that he will take care of everything. He wants nothing more than for us to live in the fullness of his life here on earth, and to have eternal life with him in heaven.  Trusting in him, we will live!

Questions: Am I willing to trust Jesus; to surrender myself completely to his divine will? If I’m holding back; what is causing me to resist turning to Jesus unreservedly? Can I try to pray today in confidence? – Jesus, I surrender myself to you; take care of everything.

Pray: Loving God, you are capable of all things. Help me to trust you unreservedly, believing that you want nothing more than for me to bask in your holy and divine will.  I pray this in the powerful and perfect name of Jesus. Amen.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who seeks refuge in him!
