Memorial Feast:  Saint Turibius of Mogrovejo, Bishop (1538-+1606) Patron Saint of Peru and Latin American Bishops

Book of Numbers 21:4-9

Psalm 102:2-3, 16-18, 19-21

John 8:21-30

An unknown author once said, “It is not what men eat but what they digest that makes them strong; not what we gain but what we save that makes us rich; not what we read but what we remember that makes us learned; not what we preach but what we practice that makes us Christians.”

In today’s Gospel narrative Jesus tells the Pharisees, “I do nothing on my own, but I say only what the Father taught me…I always do what is pleasing to Him.”  In these words our Lord is using the image of an ambassador.  He is the Father’s Ambassador to the world and to all of us.  An ambassador is an authorized representative of a “country.”  He speaks not in his own name but on behalf of the one who sent him.  Christ, as the Father’s Ambassador, fits into this image because He proclaims the facts of the Gospel and its promises.  He urges us, sinners all, to receive God’s reconciliation and His message of the Good News of the Kingdom.

Friends, we Christians are Christ’s ambassadors who are being sent into the world by Him to speak and to do on His behalf.  We say and do, not for our own purpose, but for the growth of the Kingdom of God here on earth so that God will become known to all.

Questions of the Day:  How will you bring the healing words of Jesus to others?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, You are my King.  I promise to be obedient and faithful to You until death.  Amen.
