Isaiah 1:10, 16-20

Psalm 50

Matthew 23:1-12

We’ve all heard the saying; if you talk the talk you must walk the walk.”  If you don’t then you are not acting in a way that agrees with the things that you say.  This is basically what Jesus is telling us about the “showy practices” of the Pharisees.  In a way they wanted to be good models of observant Jews but in their misguided” zeal for religion they sought respect and honor for themselves rather than for God and His Holy Word.  It sounded to me that they made the practice of their faith a burden rather than a joy for the people they were supposed to serve.

I believe that respect for God and His ways inclines us to Godly humility and simplicity of heart.  The word disciple means one who listens in order to learn; one who craves knowledge.

Jesus shows us, teaches us and leads us on our journey to the Father.  It is the way of peace, joy, or righteousness, and true happiness.  He shows us the way by lowering Himself as a servant for our sake.  He humbled Himself, even to death on a cross.

Jesus asks us to be humble and to have Christ-like humility.  The humble put their trust in God and in the power of His love and saving grace.  True humility is a servant-like quality which enables us to place our life at the service of God and others.  Jesus did and so can we!

Question of the Day:  Will you follow the example of Jesus and serve others?

Prayer:  To the upright I will show the saving power of God.  (Psalm 50)
