Rest in Peace Father Gus

Father Gus Esposito, a beloved priest and speaker at Malvern passed away on Saturday January 9th, 2021 after a brief illness.  Many rallied in the last  few weeks for Father’s recovery and all continue to pray for happy repose of his soul!

Father was a native of South Philadelphia, and was raised in Collingdale. After graduating from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1969, he spent two years in college before joining the Augustinians novitiate. He was ordained a priest in 1979. He taught at Bonner for one year before being assigned to a church in the Bronx from 1981 to 1984. Father attained his Ph.D. in Spanish literature and published his dissertation in 1988.

His next teaching assignment was Villanova University for four years. Then, in 2005, Fr. Esposito was named president of both Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High Schools when the archdiocese declared the schools, separated by a driveway, co-institutional. Father was a well loved spiritual director and Spanish Language professor at St. Charles Seminary at the time of his death.

We are grateful to have had Father join us at Malvern as a retreat director. He will be missed by many.
