Take 3 minutes and read Pope Francis’ list of New Year’s Resolutions
January 5, 2018
By: Michael Norton, Vice President, Malvern Retreat House
It is that time of year when many of us make our New Year’s resolutions. No doubt, as we reflect on and write our list of changes we fully intend to make, we do so with total commitment to better our lives. I think for the past 30 years, I have resolved to lose weight and exercise more. Yes, I made these two resolutions again for 2018, among others. Each year, history repeats itself. As time goes on, my commitment wanes. Maybe I need a better list of resolutions.
During our weekly radio show, Companion on the Journey, (Tuesdays, 5-6 PM on Radio Maria) Malvern Retreat House President Mark Poletunow shared Pope Francis’ New Year’s List of Resolutions. The Holy Father published this list in 2014, but it works for 2018 as well:
- Don’t gossip.
- Finish your meals.
- Make time for others.
- Choose a “more humble” purchase.
- Meet the poor in the flesh.
- Stop judging others
- Befriend those who disagree.
- Make commitments, such as marriage.
- Make it a habit to ask the Lord.
- Be happy
