Deacon Al Clay

Al Clay is a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, ordained in 2002, and serves at

Immaculate Conception Church in Jenkintown, and the Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.

At Immaculate Conception Parish, he serves on the Parish Council, Liturgy Committee, and is Chairman of the Finance Committee. He is a regular homilist at the parish and performs many other pastoral duties in his role as deacon. He is a frequent speaker in the Archdiocese at parish, retreat, and other church functions on topics of the diaconate, stewardship, and other aspects of living the Catholic faith.

Al has worked in financial services for over 30 years, most recently as CEO of Davidson Trust Company, and of Pitcairn Trust Company before that. Currently, he is an independent consultant to the Wealth Management industry.

His charitable endeavors include The Archbishop’s Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the National Catholic Bioethics Center and St. Charles Seminary.

Formerly, Deacon Clay served on the Boards of BLOCS (Business Leaders Organized for Catholic Schools); Stewards of St John Neumann; the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Board of Education; LaSalle College High School; Pennsylvanians for Human Life; the Investment Committee of the Augustinian Friars; The Center for Study of Church Management at Villanova University; Bishop McDevitt High School: Mann Center for Performing Arts, and the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia,

He is a graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, PA and is a member of its Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the Archdiocese of Philadelphia CYO Hall of Fame. He is a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.

Al is a member of the World Presidents’ Organization (WPO), and is a Past President of the Philadelphia Chapter of Legatus.

Al earned a BS in Accounting and a Master of Taxation degree from Villanova University and is a CPA and a CFP. He has served on the Villanova School of Business adjunct faculty and is the author of a professional reference manual on partnership taxation. He has also published a series of columns for The Philadelphia Inquirer on the subject of Business Ethics. He is a frequent speaker on the taxation of investments, and other matters affecting wealth management for individuals and trusts, as well as business ethics.

Deacon Clay is one of ten children of Alvin (dec’d) and Nancy Clay of Springfield, PA. He and his wife Kathleen have seven children and four grandchildren and reside in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania
