Twelve Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
June 3, 2025
June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This practice is rooted in scripture but formally developed in the Middle Ages. Tradition holds that the 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus were revealed to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque during her mystical visions of Christ in the 1670s. The promises highlight Jesus’ unrelenting love and unyielding mercy.
Here are the 12 Promises:

1: I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.
Jesus will provide the spiritual help needed in one’s vocation or daily duties.
2: I will establish peace in their homes.
Christ brings harmony and unity to families devoted to His Sacred Heart.
3: I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
In times of suffering, Jesus offers His consolation and strength.
4: I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
He promises His protection and presence especially at the hour of death.
5: I will bestow abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
God will bless their efforts—especially those done with love and trust in Him.
6: Sinners will find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
The Sacred Heart is a wellspring of forgiveness and grace for all who turn to Him.
7: Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
He will ignite the hearts of those who have grown spiritually cold or indifferent.
8: Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
Those already seeking holiness will be drawn even deeper into divine love.
9: I will bless every place in which an image of My Heart is exposed and honored.
Homes, churches, and schools that display and venerate the Sacred Heart receive special protection.
10: I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
Priests devoted to the Sacred Heart will experience greater fruit in their ministry.
11: Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
Promoters of this devotion are especially dear to Christ.
12: I promise you, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in My displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments. My Heart shall be their safe refuge in that last moment.
This is known as the “Great Promise.” It emphasizes the importance of the First Friday devotion—receiving Communion on the first Friday of nine consecutive months in a state of grace.
These promises are not magical guarantees, but they are graces that flow from the devotion to Jesus’ Sacred Heart.
Consecration to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Composed by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque
O most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
I give myself to You entirely.
Take all that I am and all that I have,
all that I do and all that I suffer,
to be Yours forever.
This is the only desire of my heart:
to belong entirely to You,
and to do all for Your love.
I renounce with my whole heart
whatever can displease You.
O Sacred Heart,
I love You more than all things.
Take possession of my soul.
Dwell in me and fill my heart
with Your Holy Spirit.
Let me never be separated from You.
May I live and die in Your love.
Amen.
