The Feast of the Archangels: Messengers of God’s Presence and Protection

On September 29, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels. Throughout Scripture, these three archangels reveal God’s care for His people, reminding us that we are never alone on our journey of faith.

Each archangel has a unique mission. St. Michael is the great defender of God’s people, courageously defeating the forces of evil. He reminds us to remain steadfast in faith and to trust that God is always with us in times of spiritual struggle.

St. Gabriel is God’s messenger of hope. It was Gabriel who announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would become the Mother of Jesus. His words, “Do not be afraid,” continue to echo through the hearts of believers, encouraging us to trust God’s plan even when the future is uncertain.

St. Raphael, whose name means “God heals,” guided and protected Tobias on his journey in the Book of Tobit. He is known as the patron of travelers, healing, and those seeking God’s guidance. Raphael reminds us that God walks beside us, bringing healing to both body and soul.

The Feast of the Archangels reminds us that God sends His heavenly helpers to strengthen and accompany us as we seek a deeper relationship with Him. Whether walking the peaceful grounds, spending time in Eucharistic Adoration, praying the Rosary at one of our Marian shrines, or simply sitting in silence, we are invited to open our hearts to God’s presence.

As we celebrate the Archangels, let us remember that their purpose is always to lead us closer to Christ. They point us toward God’s love, protect us in moments of difficulty, and encourage us to live with courage and hope.
